# How to Set Up a Conference From ChatGPT or Claude via MCP

You set up a conference from ChatGPT or Claude by adding your event platform's MCP server URL as a custom connector and giving instructions in chat. As of 15 October 2026, Claude allows this on every plan, Free included with one connector; ChatGPT's full MCP with write actions is in beta on Business, Enterprise and Edu.

## Key points

- Claude Free accounts can add one custom connector; on Claude Team plans, only Owners and Primary Owners can add connectors.
- OpenAI says full MCP with write actions is rolling out in beta to ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, while Pro can connect MCP servers with read and fetch permissions only.
- ChatGPT requires confirmation for write actions by default and treats every tool without a read-only hint as a write action.
- Amphi lists its MCP connector, "AI event setup", on all four of its plans and publishes three example prompts, but no tool list or sign-in method.
- On Amphi, the MCP server is inactive in archive mode, and switching an event to archive is irreversible.

## What does an MCP connector let ChatGPT or Claude do with a conference?

An MCP connector lets ChatGPT or Claude create and edit event data in a conference platform from a chat, through tools the platform exposes. You describe the agenda, speakers and invitations in plain language; the assistant fills in what you would otherwise type into admin forms, and the platform stores the result.

MCP (Model Context Protocol) is "an open-source standard for connecting AI applications to external systems" [\[1\]](#source-1). Its maintainers compare it to "a USB-C port for AI applications" [\[1\]](#source-1). A custom connector is an MCP server you add to your assistant by pasting its URL, rather than picking it from the assistant's own directory.

On Amphi, the published MCP scope is "event configuration, agenda, speakers, attendees, and settings" [\[10\]](#source-10). Amphi's guides say that once connected, "you can dictate instructions and the AI creates talks, descriptions, invitations, and templates for you" [\[8\]](#source-8). Amphi has no AI of its own: its terms state that the platform "does not contain built-in artificial intelligence (AI) features" [\[11\]](#source-11), so the reasoning comes from the assistant you connect.

This article covers setup. To compare which event platforms run an MCP server at all, see [event platform MCP servers compared](https://www.amphi.cc/en/blog/event-platform-mcp-servers).

## What do you need before you connect an AI assistant?

You need three things: an assistant plan that allows custom MCP connectors with write actions, an account on the event platform with the right role, and the platform's MCP server URL. Amphi states that "The AI assistant works with the same permissions as the account it is connected to" [\[8\]](#source-8), so connect an account that is allowed to change the event.

Assistant plans checked 15 October 2026.

| Assistant | Plans that can add a custom MCP connector | Who adds it | Source |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Claude (web, desktop, Cowork) | Free (1 custom connector), Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise | You on Free, Pro and Max; Owners and Primary Owners on Team; on Enterprise also custom roles with "Manage access to Libraries" | [2] |
| ChatGPT | Business, Enterprise, Edu: full MCP with write actions (beta). Pro: read and fetch only, in developer mode. Free, Plus: not stated | Business: each admin or owner turns on developer mode for themselves | [6] |

On the platform side, Amphi's [MCP connector guide](https://www.amphi.cc/en/features/guides#mcp) says: "Copy the MCP URL from the Amphi admin and add it to your tool as a new connector" [\[8\]](#source-8).

Decision rules:

- Start with a test event, not the live one, because the assistant has your account's permissions.
- Treat the URL and any token as a password. Amphi's guides say: "Don't share the token with anyone" [\[8\]](#source-8).

## How do you add an MCP connector in Claude?

In Claude, you add a remote MCP server as a custom connector under Customize > Connectors, choose how it signs in, and then switch it on in a conversation. Anthropic's Help Center gives these steps for Pro and Max [\[2\]](#source-2):

1. Open Customize > Connectors.
2. Click + Add, then Add custom connector.
3. Enter a name, for example "Amphi".
4. Paste the remote MCP server URL and click Continue.
5. Review the detected authentication settings and click Continue.
6. Under Authentication, choose Sign in now, Sign in when needed or No sign in. Optional fields cover an OAuth client and Request headers, such as API keys.
7. Click Add.
8. In a chat, click + at the lower left, open Connectors and switch the connector on.

On Team and Enterprise plans, an owner adds the connector under Organization settings > Connectors > Add > Custom > Web, and members then click Connect under Customize > Connectors [\[2\]](#source-2).

In Claude Code, add the same URL with one command, then run `/mcp` to sign in if the server uses OAuth [\[3\]](#source-3):

```bash
claude mcp add --transport http amphi
```

Anthropic's advice is: "Only connect Claude to servers built and hosted by organizations and applications you trust" [\[2\]](#source-2). It also warns that during Research, Claude "can invoke tools from your connectors automatically without further approval", and recommends disabling tools that take write actions [\[2\]](#source-2).

## How do you add an MCP connector in ChatGPT?

In ChatGPT, you add a remote MCP server as a custom plugin by pasting its URL and configuring authentication, then call it in a chat by typing @. OpenAI replaced the App Directory with the Plugin Directory on 9 July 2026 [\[7\]](#source-7), so guides written before then refer to apps.

OpenAI's developer documentation gives these steps for ChatGPT on the web [\[4\]](#source-4), [\[5\]](#source-5):

1. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins, select the plus button, then Add custom MCP server.
2. Enter a name and, optionally, a description.
3. Under Connection, paste the server URL.
4. Choose authentication: OAuth, No authentication, or OAuth or no authentication [\[5\]](#source-5).
5. Review the risk warning and select I understand and want to continue.
6. Select Create as a plugin, review the tools ChatGPT discovered, and install the plugin.
7. Start a new conversation, type @ and select the plugin.

On ChatGPT Business, developer mode is under Workspace Settings > Permissions & Roles > Connected Data; on Enterprise and Edu, under Settings > Apps > Advanced Settings [\[6\]](#source-6). "Only admins/owners can enable developer mode and deploy an app", and admins cannot switch it on for individual members [\[6\]](#source-6). Workspace permissions, including Lockdown, apply to custom MCP servers [\[5\]](#source-5).

OpenAI states that "Write actions by default require confirmation" and treats any tool without the `readOnlyHint` annotation as a write action [\[5\]](#source-5). Keep that confirmation on while you build an event.

Amphi's guide links setup pages for Claude, Claude Code and Cursor, not ChatGPT, although its pricing page names ChatGPT [\[8\]](#source-8), [\[9\]](#source-9).

## Which prompts build a multi-session conference, and in what order?

Build a multi-session conference in the order its data depends on: event settings first, then locations, speakers and talks, with invitations last. Ask for one kind of change per prompt and check the admin before the next one, so a mistake stays small and easy to find.

1. **Event basics.** Name, dates and settings. On Amphi Premium Conference, "No more than 30 calendar days may pass between the first and the last talk day" [\[8\]](#source-8).
2. **Locations.** One per parallel track. On Amphi, "more locations let talks run in parallel" [\[8\]](#source-8). Amphi's published MCP scope does not name locations separately [\[10\]](#source-10), so if the assistant cannot create them, add them in the admin.
3. **Speaker profiles.** Amphi's example: "Update speaker Jane Doe's bio from her LinkedIn profile and add a link to the uploaded presentation" [\[8\]](#source-8).
4. **Talks with abstracts.** Amphi's example: "Create a talk on July 17 from 8:00 titled XY and generate the abstract in the description from the attached presentation" [\[8\]](#source-8).
5. **Email templates.** The activation email and the invitation template, before anyone is invited.
6. **Attendees and invitations.** Amphi's example: "Invite these 50 attendees using the emails in the attachment and use the sample invite email as a template" [\[8\]](#source-8).

Step 6 sends email to real people. Run it only after the checks in the next section.

## What should you check by hand after the assistant edits the event?

Check every field that attendees see or that triggers an email, because the assistant's output is a draft. Amphi's terms say AI outputs "are advisory only and must be checked before use" [\[11\]](#source-11), and its guides say to "review the changes the AI makes before you publish them" [\[8\]](#source-8).

| What to check | Why it matters on Amphi | Source |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Talk dates, start times and time zone | A wrong day or hour moves the talk; Premium Conference talks must fit a 30-day window. Agenda times render "in the viewer's local timezone", so check them against the venue's local time | [8] , [12] |
| Locations | Parallel talks need separate locations | [8] |
| Speaker and partner assignment | Profiles are "created as profiles first and only then assigned to a page" | [8] |
| Talk access | Each talk is public, for visitors only, or only for those registered for the talk | [8] |
| Pages and site menu | Content in the admin reaches visitors only through a page and the site menu | [8] |
| Open registration | Registration links and invitations keep working even when it is set to NO | [8] |
| Activation email template | Registration sends an activation email, so its template must exist first | [8] |
| Stream links | Each embedded YouTube, Vimeo, Teams, Zoom, Google Meet or iframe link must match its session | [8] |

Decision rule: if the same kind of change fails your check twice, make it in the admin yourself.

## Where are the limits of Amphi's MCP connector?

Amphi's MCP connector stops working once an event is archived, and the assistant can delete data just as the connected account can. Plan the setup so that every edit happens before archive, and ask the assistant to confirm before it deletes anything.

Limits to plan around:

- **Archive mode.** The pricing table lists "MCP server inactive" for archive mode [\[9\]](#source-9), and "Switching to archive is irreversible" [\[8\]](#source-8). Premium Conference archives automatically on the 365th day after its 30-day talk window ends; the Free tier has no archive mode [\[8\]](#source-8). For what happens to the content afterwards, see [conference recordings after the event](https://www.amphi.cc/en/blog/conference-recordings-after-event).
- **Client access.** You can invite a client administrator with access to one event only, which matters for [agencies running events for clients](https://www.amphi.cc/en/blog/event-platform-for-agencies).
- **Tools without MCP.** The guides describe an access token generated in Amphi settings and Amphi's Open API as a fallback [\[8\]](#source-8). The REST API, accessed via an access token, is available on all plans. Custom integrations with a customer’s own systems are offered only on the Enterprise plan, which is why the pricing page lists “API and custom integrations” under Enterprise [\[9\]](#source-9).

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I use ChatGPT's free plan to set up an event via MCP?

OpenAI does not list it. As of 15 October 2026, full MCP with write actions is in beta on ChatGPT Business, Enterprise and Edu, and Pro gets read and fetch only. Claude's Free plan allows one custom connector, enough for one event platform.

### Does Amphi have built-in AI?

No. Amphi's terms state that the platform does not contain built-in AI features. You connect your own assistant, such as ChatGPT or Claude, through the MCP connector, which comes with every Amphi plan, including Free for up to 100 attendees.

### Does the Amphi MCP connector work after the event ends?

Yes, until the event is archived. In archive mode the MCP server is inactive, and switching to archive is irreversible. Premium Conference archives automatically on the 365th day after the 30-day talk window; Free has no archive mode.

### Can an AI assistant send event invitations for me?

Amphi's own example prompt asks the assistant to invite 50 attendees from a list, so treat the request as a real send. ChatGPT asks for confirmation on write actions by default. Set up the activation email template and check the list first.
